Starry Night Star & Agency Dicount
Back to Horses On Tour
In the fall of 2010 Starry Night Star and Agency Discount traveled down I-94 to Balmoral Park, just south of Chicago to race under the watchful eye of trainer Chuck Gates.
Starry Night qualified at Maywood Park and raced seven times at Balmoral Park after his last fair start at Viroqua, trotting his fastest mile in 1:58.4. His last race of 2010 was December 5th, and he was then turned out on the snowy and windy hill in Waukesha, WI.
Agency Discount (aka Revy) qualified a couple of times and made nine starts at Balmoral Park. She was officially timed in 2:00.1 and after her last race on December 8th, she joined Starry Night Star on that cold, windy hill!! Luckily Starry Night & Revy’s friends buy them lots of "squeezy buns" (a molasses, oats and corn treat) that helped them get through the winter.
On March 6th, Starry Night and Revy became Buckeyes when they traveled to Scioto Downs in Columbus Ohio, to get ready for the racing season that started on May 13th. Since arriving at Scioto, Starry Night has earned himself a new lifetime mark – at age 10 nonetheless – of 1:59.4! For those who don’t know, trotters are like fine wine … they only get better with age! Agency Discount is currently into qualify at the famed Delaware, OH Fairgrounds, home of the LITTLE BROWN JUG!
Plans are to continue racing both horses at the 5/8 mile Scioto oval until late July when they may be back to Wisconsin to race at the fairs. There are a few fairs in Illinois that host aged trots that are calling Starry Night’s name -and some of those fairs have these really great pork chop sandwiches. Squeezy buns for the horses and pork chop sandwiches for the owners...summer doesn't get much better than that!
