Speedy Wiskey
Another of Wisconsin's top ten trotters,
Speedy Whiskey left the Wisconsin Harness Racing Circuit after the Mineral Point fair and went to Balmoral Park in Chicago, Illinois. Speedy won his first pari-mutuel start in 2:01.3, and started 11 times in Chicago. He was officially timed in 1:57.4 and earned $4,816 in 2010.
Speedy Whiskey was a private purchase by the Wands as a 4 year old unbroken stallion. Gabe & Bob Wand had also bought Whiskey's mama (Elton Street Lana) as a unbroken 4 year old mare. Lana was trained and raced by the Wands, earning $29,147. Son Whiskey only has $24,331 to catch up to mama!
After Whiskey's 11 starts in Chicago, he came back to the Shullsburg farm for some well deserved R&R. Whiskey is the exact opposite of Mr. Shankopotamus on the race track, where Shanks is quite lazy, Whiskey is always on fire. He likes to jump around and throws his head all the while he is jogging and training, even sometimes while coming up to the starting gate! But once he is at the gate, Whiskey is all business. Whiskey is now back in training, still shaking his head and driving his trainers to drink a bit o' Whiskey after training is done. Watch for Whiskey at Running Aces this summer, his plans are to shake things up at the Minnesota 5/8 mile track!
